Rice exporters in India seek European pesticides norms
Rice exporters in India have sought a ban on pesticides that are not registered in foreign markets, a bid to shore up exports to Europe and the United States.
They are hopeful that the Pesticide Management Bill, 2020 will exhort pesticide manufacturers to register their products in foreign markets such as the US and European Union and help boost shipments from India, the largest producer of premium rice.
Spice extracts firm Kancor to invest ₹150 crore over 3 years to expand manufacturing facilities
Global spice extracts firm Kancor Ingredients, part of France-based flavour and fragrance company Mane Group, proposes to invest over ₹150 crore over the next 36 months to expand its existing manufacturing facilities and set up new ones incorporating the latest technologies.The Kochi-headquartered firm will continue with the expansion of its facilities in Kerala, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. In Karnataka, it to set up an additional facility adjacent to the existing one at Byadgi. It is acquiring around 50 acres of land to set up a new processing centre, which will be its processing hub for the next 25-30 years.

On the inaugural day of the 10th Indian Seed Congress 2020 in New Delhi on Sunday (16th Feb) Minister of Agriculture for Uttar Pradesh Surya Pratap Shahi said, “Yogi Adityanath government is committed to fulfill the aim of ‘Doubling Farmers’ Incomes’ and quality seeds have a vital role to play in this mission. Our farmers by having access to better quality seed will increase their yields by up to 20%. Our government has bought transparency within the seed system and is taking strong measures to remove spurious/fake seeds. But the need of the hour is that, UP has to take a lead in seed production.” He said, “Our government wants the seed industry to partner with us and work in UP. We want to create special seed zones in different regions across UP. We will be bringing out a policy soon.”
