At 78 lakh tonnes, India’s sugar output falls to lowest in five years
The production of sugar was lowest since the 2014-15 season, when it stood at 74.95 lakh tonnes
Indian sugar mills produced 77.95 lakh tonnes of sugar till December 31, that is, the first three months of the current sugar season (October 2019-September 2020). This is the lowest in five years. In comparison, output of the sweetener in the corresponding period of the previous 2018-19 sugar season was 111.72 lakh tonnes, which was 30 per cent more than in the current season so far, according to a press statement from the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA).
The production of sugar was lowest since the 2014-15 season, when it stood at 74.95 lakh tonnes.
Currently, 437 mills are crushing sugarcane, compared to 507 mills in the same period of the previous season.
APEDA Sends First Trial Shipment of Vegetables to Dubai
Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) in its endeavor to promote exports from agriculture produce rich areas of the country has sent the first trial shipment of vegetables by sea route to Dubai from Varanasi. The 1st trial shipment of one container of fresh vegetables was flagged off by Paban Kumar Borthakur, APEDA Chairman and Deepak Agrawal, Commissioner of Varanasi in presence of Kaushal Raj Sharma, District Magistrate.
ICAR-IISWC and Eco Task Force Signs MOU
The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun and 127 Infantry Battalion (TA) Ecological, Garhwal Rifles (Eco-Task Force – ETF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the scientific planning, execution and monitoring of afforestation work carried out by the ETF.
Dr. P.R. Ojasvi, Director, ICAR-IISWC and Col. Vedvrat Vaidya, C.O., 127 Eco Task Force signed the MoU on the behalf of their respective organizations.
Dr. D.V. Singh, Nodal Officer for the intended collaborative work, ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun outlined the vital points of the MoU. Major Vishal Raizada, Eco Task Force, Dehradun was also present during the occasion.
PM Modi to Release Third Installment of PM-Kisan Scheme Today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (2 January 2020) will release the much-awaited third installment of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi yojana for the months – December 2019 to March 2020 in Karnataka. PM-Kisan scheme is said to benefit more than 6 crore farmers in India.
Under the PM-Kisan yojana, farmers will get a yearly amount of Rs 6,000 in three installments of Rs 2,000 each. Modi government had launched the minimum income support scheme ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in 2019 with the aim to double farmer incomes by 2022. PM-Kisan aims to transfer Rs 75,000 crores to as many as 12 crore farmers across India in 3 years.
