Big names in India’s palm oil industry are chalking out plans for expansion of palm oil plantation

The big names in India’s palm oil industry are chalking out plans for expansion of oil palm plantation and processing, encouraged by the government’s move to boost oilseed production and reduce the country’s reliance on imports for its cooking oil needs.

Of the four main companies in this sector, the leading two– Godrej Agrovet and 3F Oil Palm—are considering investing about Rs 500 crore each over the next five years for expansion of oil palm cultivation, after the government earlier this month said Rs 11,000 crore will be invested under the National Edible Oil Mission–Oil Palm to boost oilseed production.

TCI, Walmart Foundation launch hub for Farmer Producer Organizations

In an effort to empower India’s 125 million smallholder farms to take advantage of growing opportunities in the agricultural sector, the Tata-Cornell Institute (TCI) for Agriculture and Nutrition launched a Hub for Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) within its Center of Excellence in New Delhi. The Hub features a first-of-its-kind database of Indian FPOs.

With $ 1 million grant from the Walmart Foundation, TCI launches FPO Hub, a database of Indian FPOs

The Tata-Cornell Institute (TCI NSE 1.51 %) for Agriculture and Nutrition launched a Hub for Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) within its Center of Excellence in New Delhi. The Hub features a database of Indian FPOs.

“Created with grant funding from the Walmart Foundation, the Hub will serve as a repository of learnings, information, and knowledge for the advancement of FPOs in India,” said a release issued by TCI.
