Govt approves expenditure of Rs 1,061 cr to reimburse losses on cotton sale under MSP

The Centre on Saturday approved an additional expenditure of Rs 748.08 crore for Cotton Corporation of India and Maharashtra State Co-operative Cotton Growers Marketing Federation towards reimbursement of losses on sale of cotton procured under MSP operations during cotton years 2014-15 and 2015-16.

It also approved an expenditure of Rs 312.93 crore for reimbursing the losses to CCI and MSCCGMFL on sale of cotton procured under minimum support price (MSP) operations during cotton years 2017-18 and 2018-19. The cotton year is from October to September.

New turmeric arrival improves

The arrival of new turmeric to the markets in Erode increased on Thursday.

“Only one market would be conducted on Friday for this month, after that the turmeric sale would be closed till the month end. So the turmeric growers have brought increased quantity of new turmeric for sale. The traders also purchased for their local and upcountry demand. On Thursday, 6,400 bags — including 4,900 bags of new turmeric — arrived for sale and the buyers purchased 4,281 bags of turmeric. But the price of the finger turmeric was sold above ₹7,000 a quintal in all the markets after some days.

Taking steps to ensure supply without disruption, says Mother Dairy

Mother Dairy, a subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board, said on Friday it is taking several measures to ensure there is no disruption in the supply of milk or other products, and the required stocks are available to meet the demand.

It has also put in place strict protocols around the collection of milk to minimise person-to-person contact to ensure safety at the collection, processing and distribution levels.

Mother Dairy sells more than 30 lakh litres of milk per day in Delhi-NCR and operates a network of around 850 milk booths in the region.
