Senior Agri Scientist Chintala Govinda Rajulu Appointed as Nabard’s New President.
Chintala Govinda Rajulu, a senior agricultural scientist, has been named as the next president of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). Govinda Rajulu currently serves as Deputy Managing Director of Nabard based in Mumbai. As per reports, the Bureau of the Board of Banks (BBB), headed by the retired IAS official BP Sharma with the secretary of financial services, secretary of public companies, deputy governor of RBI has recommended the name of Govinda Rajulu for the prestigious post of president of Nabard in the middle.
China Launches $ 200 mn Fund to Combat Locusts, FAW Attack
Amid the coronavirus tragedy across the country, China has allocated 1.4 billion yuan ($200 million) for the prevention and control of pests, including fall armyworms and locusts to protect the country’s massive agriculture sector and food security.
As per reports, fall armyworms first arrived in China in January 2019 which spread over a million hectares of farmland last year. It is likely to hit more crops this year including the key corn-growing region in the northeast.
Govt pays over Rs 50,000 crore to farmers under PM-KISAN scheme
The Centre on Saturday said it has disbursed Rs 50,850 crore to farmers so far under its landmark scheme PM-KISAN, enabling them to meet farm input cost and household expenses. The agriculture ministry shared the progress made under the scheme, ahead of its first anniversary on February 24.
The PM-KISAN was formally launched on February 24 last year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
