Mangaluru CII asks Centre to allow import of RBD palmolein

The Mangaluru council of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has urged the Centre to allow the import of RBD (refined, bleached and deodorised) palmolein oil so that the country is fully prepared to supply sufficient edible oil in any worst-case scenario during coronavirus outbreak.

K Prakash Rao, Chairman of the Mangaluru council of CII, said that the Centre has put import of RBD palmolein oil on restricted list. Only crude palm oil can be imported, and need to be refined in the country.

COVID-19: Sugar industry in Maharashtra may be in for some bitter times

COVID-19 is impacting sugar industry stakeholders in various ways. The spread of the virus has reduced sugar intake from sugar mills, which will, going foward, result in financial problems for these firms. At the same time, many farmers are worried at the cane standing in their fields, as 56 out of 146 sugar mills have stopped crushing activity.

Pepper arrivals to Kochi rise as TN shuts its borders

The closure of borders by Tamil Nadu to curb vehicular movement from Kerala and Karnataka has led to increased pepper arrivals to Kochi on Friday.

The terminal market here has started witnessing more sellers as direct dispatch from primary markets in the neighbouring State appears to have been stopped following the closing down of borders to block passenger movement due to coronavirus threat.
