New variety may lift wheat output to a record this year

Production seen at 112-114 million tonnes as weather, higher acreage also help

India’s wheat production is heading for a record in the current crop season 2020 July-2021 June on rise in acreage and change in varietal mix aided by a favourable weather.

“The crop is in good condition across all wheat-producing States and we are heading for another record harvest, which could range between 112 and 114 million tonnes this year,” said Director of the Karnal-based Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research GP Singh.

Indian coffee exporters see marginal growth in shipments for calendar 2021 even as the second Covid wave in Europe, their largest market, continues to weigh on demand.

“The second Covid wave, which has impacted out-of-home consumption in key markets such as Italy and the UK, among others, is hurting Indian coffee shipments,” said Ramesh Rajah, President, Coffee Exporters’ Association.
