Now that the government has allowed contract farming, Godrej Agrovet wants a big play in oil palm cultivation.
Speaking in a webinar on agriculture on Thursday, the company’s Managing Director, Balram Singh Yadav, said that the company could “build a very good system for contract farming for oil palm cultivation.” Funds, he added, are not a problem.
National Fishworkers Forum flays draft Fisheries Policy 2020
The National Fishworkers Forum is up in arms against the draft Fisheries Policy 2020, saying that the government’s intention is not in favour of fishing communities or for protecting the oceans and the coast.
The Forum highlighted the procedural lapses on the part of Fisheries Ministry in putting out the policy on the website of the National Fisheries Development Board without giving any space for receiving comments from stakeholders or a cut-off date. It is even more appalling that the policy has not been uploaded on the Ministry’s website.
Sugar production in 2020-21 is slated to be 305 lakh tonnes: ISMA
Sugar production in the country during the forthcoming season 2020-21 would be around 305 lakh tonnes (lt) as against the expected 272 lt during the current season, Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) said on Thursday.
The sugar production could have been as high as 320 lt, but this would not happen because sugarcane sufficient to produce 15 lt sugar is projected to be diverted to produce ethanol, the sugar industry body said.
