For every Rs 100 of premium paid for crop insurance under PMFBY; farmers received Rs 514 as claims: Govt
Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Friday informed Parliament that for every Rs 100 of premium paid by farmers under the flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), they have received about Rs 514 as claims. Since implementation of PMFBY in 2016, around 38 crore farmer applicants have been enrolled and over 12.37 crore (provisional) have received claims, he said in his written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
“During this period, nearly Rs 25,252 crore were paid by farmers as their share of premium against which claims of over Rs 1,30,015 crore (provisional) have been paid to them. Thus, for every 100 rupees of premium paid by farmers, they have received about Rs 514 as claims,” the minister said.
Govt hikes raw jute MSP by Rs 300 to Rs 5,050 per quintal
The government on Friday increased the minimum support price of raw jute by Rs 300 to Rs 5,050 per quintal for 2023-24 season. The decision was taken at the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The approval is based on recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP),” I&B Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters.
The MSP of Raw Jute (TD-3 equivalent to earlier TD-5 grade) has been fixed at Rs 5,050 per quintal for 2023-24 season.
Honey production up 6.56 per cent, export by 24 per cent in 2021-22: Tomar
The production of honey in the country went up to 1,33,200 tonnes in 2021-22
Production of honey has seen 6.56 per cent growth and the export 24.02 per cent growth during 2021-22, the Centre informed Rajya Sabha on Friday.
In a reply to a query on National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM), Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, said the production of honey in the country went up from 1,25,000 tonnes in 2020-21 to 1,33,200 tonnes in 2021-22, registering a growth of 6.56 per cent.
