Nafed floats bids for supply of 15,000 tonnes of imported red onions by Nov 20
Cooperative Nafed on Saturday invited bids from importers for supply of 15,000 tonnes of red onions by November 20 in order to boost the domestic availability and check price rise.
The cooperative has asked bidders to supply 40 to 60 mm size of red onions from any country of origin at Rs 50 per kg by November 20. They can bid for a minimum quantity of 2,000 tonnes to be supplied in multiple lots of 500 tonnes, it said.

The Pesticide Management Bill, 2020 tabled in the Rajya Sabha during the Budget session of Parliament suffers from many shortcomings and are detrimental to the interests of any stakeholder – be it farmers or industry, said RG Agarwal, Chairman of Dhanuka Agritech Ltd.
“While drafting the Bill, the government has refused to listen to scientists or farmers, let alone the industry. It is rather a mystery what their compulsions were, to come out with such a Bill,” Agarwal said in an interview with BusinessLine.
Agricultural, Marine export bodies may move out of Commerce Ministry
After ringing in agricultural reforms with a slew of legislations, the government is now working on the nuts and bolts of boosting exports of farm and marine products. As part of the exercise, it may move apex export promotion bodies of these products – Agricultural and Processed Food products Export Development Authority (Apeda) and Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) – to their respective ministries, officials aware of the development told ET.
The two autonomous bodies are currently under the commerce and industry ministry. The ministry is in talks to move Apeda to agriculture and farmers welfare ministry and MPEDA) to the fisheries department in the fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying ministry, they said.
