How India can become Aatmanirbhar in cashew sector

At a time when the Prime Minister wants India to become Aatmanirbhar in the agriculture sector, cashew is still dependent on overseas markets to meet its raw material requirements.

Though India topped in global cashew consumption at 32 per cent in 2019, raw cashew nut production stood at 20 per cent of the global production. India’s share in global cashew processing stood at 39 per cent. However, Vietnam led the cashew processing sector at 52 per cent in 2019.

India controlled locusts spread using modern technologies: PM Modi

India has controlled the spread of crop-threatening migratory pest desert locusts by using advanced technologies, including drones, and ensured there was not much crop damage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday.

In his address after the virtual inauguration of college and administration buildings of Jhansi-based Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, the prime minister stressed on the need to promote greater use of latest technologies in the farm sector.

FSSAI completes nationwide quality survey of edible oils

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has decided to intensify the crackdown against the sale of adulterated edible oil with a pan-India surveillance of both branded and unbranded products.

In a statement, the food safety authority said that a nationwide quality survey was been carried out for the first time on August 25-27. Over 4,500 samples were collected covering a total of 16 varieties of edible oils including mustard, coconut, palm, olive and blended oils.
