Rabi area up by 4% to 431 l ha
An increase in the planting of gram and mustard has pushed up the total area under rabi crops to nearly 431 lakh hectare (lh) this week, which is nearly 4 per cent more than 414 lh planted in the corresponding week last year, as per data released by the Agriculture Ministry on Friday.
KVG Bank launches OD facility for farmers
The Dharwad-headquartered regional rural bank, Karnataka Vikas Grameen Bank (KVGB), has launched an overdraft (OD) facility for farmers.
Speaking at the launch of the ‘Kirishi OD’ scheme designed for farmers, P Gopi Krishna, Chairman of the bank, said that the farmers are provided with an OD facility based on the value of the land. The limit is capped to a maximum of ₹1.5 lakh per acre to irrigated lands and ₹1 lakh per acre to dry land.
Organic farming model of spices research body gets national recognition
The integrated farming model and organic agriculture packages introduced by Indian Institute of Spices Research is proving to be a successful model among the farming and research communities across the country.
The successful implementation of the organic farming method, combined with organic package preparation and experimental farming has helped IISR become the Best Centre of All India Network Programme on Organic Farming (AI-NPOF) under ICAR for 2020.
The network project on organic farming developed by Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research focuses on promoting organic cultivation of spice crops with the help of research institutes. IISR has been part of the network project on Organic Farming since 2012. An integrated farm has been set up on the Chelavoor Campus of the institute as part of the Integrated Organic Farming System (IFS).
