NABARD loan scheme should help develop new plantation regions: Rubber Board
The domestic natural rubber industry has been going through a tough phase. A prolonged slump in rubber prices has hit the plantation sector, particularly small and marginal growers. Other segments are also beset with challenges such as global competition, dumping, non-tariff barriers and technological bottlenecks.
KN Raghavan, Executive Director, Rubber Board, spoke to BusinessLine on the sidelines of the India Rubber Meet 2020 at Mamallapuram, near Chennai, about the measures to mitigate the effect of the slump, and the road ahead for the industry.
Tata Coffee launches e-commerce platform
The coffees are directly sourced from two of Tata Coffee’s 19 estates located in Coorg region of Karnataka
Tata Coffee Limited, a subsidiary company of Tata Consumer Products Ltd, announced on Wednesday the launch of its e-commerce platform, “www.coffeesonnets.com”.
The website debuts with three variants of luxury single origin specialty coffee named ‘The Sonnets-The voice of our estates.’
“Through this online platform, Tata Coffee aims to make its finest estate coffees available to consumers across India,” it said in a statement.
Food grown without mud is not organic, says US farmers’ lawsuit
‘Hydroponic crops are not organic’
Food activists and farmers sued the Trump administration over its decision to let hydroponic operators use the prized ‘organic’ label.
The Centre for Food Safety and farmers from Maine to California say in the lawsuit that the decision “undermines the very integrity” of the country’s organic food label – “that consumers trust and that organic farmers rely upon.”
Hydroponic operations grow plants that have their roots in water or air and receive nutrients from solutions created by the operators. Under federal rules, organic crops – aside from being grown without pesticides and other harmful chemicals – must foster “soil fertility,” according to the lawsuit filed on Monday in US District Court in San Francisco.
