Cardamom auctions lose flavour amid Iran-US stand-off
A cautious approach by traders amidst tensions in the Gulf region seems to have affected sentiments in the cardamom auctions market at Bodinayakanur, which reported a price drop of ₹50/kg across all varieties.
According to traders, the stand-off between the US and Iran has gripped the market as cardamom from India reaches Iran and Afghanistan through various Gulf countries. Other than Saudi Arabia, cardamom exports to Gulf nations are around 1,000 tonnes per year and the emerging situation presents a bleak picture as far as shipments of the commodity are concerned. Exporters were also not active in the market.

Many a time farmers are duped by people selling spurious seedlings of various crops. But what if the seller offers a facility where scanning a QR (quick response) code instantly gives the farmer information about the seedlings he purchased?
The Kasaragod-based Central Plantation Crops Research Institute’s (CPCRI) Regional Station at Kayamkulam in Kerala is doing just that with coconut seedlings.

The market opened steady but regained strength on enquiries from the tyre sector though they preferred to keep a very low profile. In futures, the January contracts improved to Rs. 136.23 (135.71) and February to Rs. 137.99 (137.53) while the March contracts slid to Rs139.82 (139.85) per kg on the Indian Commodity Exchange (ICEX). “ICEX Rubber closed higher at 13623.00, up by 0.38 per cent today .
