India gearing up to host World Dairy Summit in 2022
India is working on developing a smart backyard dairying model near Delhi to showcase it to the world at the World Dairy Summit, which the country will host in 2022.
The annual flagship Summit of International Dairy Federation (IDF) is a platform for dairy stakeholders, including farmers, processors, researchers, and marketers, to exchange knowledge and ideas and experiments on better dairying practices.
Rabi sowing covers 572 lakh ha
Increase in planting of crops, especially wheat, gram and jowar, has helped rabi acreage to go up by 6.6 per cent to 572 lakh hectares (lh) this week over the corresponding week last year. The total planted area under winter crop the same week last year was 536 lh, according to rabi sowing data released by the Agriculture Ministry on Friday.
Government Setting Up Cold Storages for Holistic Development of Horticulture in India
The Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare has decided to implement the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture or MIDH for holistic development of Horticulture in India that includes aid for development of Post Harvest Management like setting up of cold storages for farmers.
Under the MIDH, government had allocated Rs. 31.50 crore to northeast state of Nagaland in 2016-17; Rs. 41.50 crore in 2017-18 & Rs. 32.00 crore in 2018-19 for different horticulture activities including construction of cold storages. But, Nagaland has reported that no funds have been used for construction of cold storages during this period.
