Bharti AXA to provide crop insurance to farmers in Karnataka, Maharashtra

Bharti AXA General Insurance, a private general insurer, has received ₹800 crore worth crop insurance mandate from the governments of Maharashtra and Karnataka to insure their farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).

This general insurer has received the authorisation for a period of three years from both the State governments to implement the PMFBY in six districts of Maharashtra and three districts of Karnataka.

Dairy veteran Shamalji Patel elected as GCMMF chairman

Cooperative leader from North Gujarat, Shamalji Patel has been unanimously elected as the chairman of ₹52,000-crore dairy giant Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) replacing the incumbent Ramsinh Parmar after the election at the ‘Amul’ marketer.

Patel heads the Sabarkantha District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd — known as Sabar Dairy — one of the 18 member unions of GCMMF.

Nutrition-sensitive agriculture should be the new normal in Covid era farming, says Kerala Agriculture Minister

Kerala Agriculture Minister VS Sunil Kumar has recommended adopting nutritious-sensitive agriculture practices in the State as a new normal in Covid era farming.

Designing such agricultural strategies will minimise the risks and maximise the benefits of nutrition and health across the entire value chain right from production to consumption, he said.

The Minister was speaking at a webinar “on the role of nutrition and kitchen garden to boost immunity”, organised by the Department of Community Science, Kerala Agriculture University.
