MSP for milling copra hiked by ₹375/quintal

Ball copra price up by ₹300 to ₹10,600/ quintal
Copra farmers in 12 coastal States are expected to get higher price this year.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved increasing Minimum Support Price (MSP) to up to ₹375 per quintal this season. This is more than 50 per cent over cost price.

Offer for Coonoor tea auction down by 2.32 lakh kg

A total volume of 13.75 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 4 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association to be held on Thursday and Friday. This is 2.32 lakh kg less than the offer for the previous auction.

Of the 13.75 lakh kg offered for this week’s auctions, as much as 12.98 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety with only 77,000 kg orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf tea counter, only 51,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 9.28 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dust tea, only 26,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 3.70 lakh kg is CTC. In all, 9.79 lakh kg belongs to Leaf grades and 3.96 lakh kg is Dust grades.

Piyush Goyal asks ICAR to explore possibilities to grow imported fruits

Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal, on Wednesday, asked Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to coordinate with commerce ministry to examine data of imported agri produce and explore possibilities of growing these in the country towards becoming self sufficient.

“We import flowers worth Rs 230 crore while the import value of fruits is around Rs 5,000 crore. ICAR can get the data from commerce ministry and evaluate the kind of soil used, amount of fertiliser and water required and surrounding markets where these can be sold,” Goyal said while addressing 92nd annual general meeting of ICAR.
