Sugar production up 42% at 110 lakh tonnes in Oct-Dec: ISMA

Sugar mills produced over 110 lakh tonnes (lt) of sugar in first three months of the current sugar season — nearly 41.9 per cent more than the corresponding period last year — and signed deals for exporting 10 lt of sugar already, said Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) on Monday.

Till December 31 last year, 481 mills currently crushing sugarcane in the country produced 110.22 lt as compared to 77.63 lt produced by 437 mills in the same period last year, an ISMA statement said.

Bird flu virus alert issued in Kerala

The reported outbreak of bird flu in parts of Kottayam and Alappuzha districts in Kerala has prompted the authorities to cull all the birds in the one km radius of the affected areas.

The disease was confirmed in Nedumudi, Thakazhi, Pallippad, Karuvatta in Alappuzha and Neendur in Kottayam and the areas have been put on high alert.

Agri-tech startup RMSI Cropalytics to engage with policymakers for crop evaluations

To equip farmers with new-age technologies of artificial intelligence and machine learning, Noida-based agri-tech startup, RMSI Cropalytics is looking to engage with agri policymakers and agri value-chain companies for crop acreage, crop health and yield estimations.

Since its inception in 2019, RMSI Cropalytics was recently selected by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare to conduct pilots for developing the methodology for technology-based crop yield estimation on a large scale. It was also commissioned task to run actual yield estimation at Gram Panchayat level for districts, which are spread across the country.
