Gujarat to get country’s first two Organic Spices Seed parks
A first-of-its-kind organic spices seed park will come up at two places in Gujarat with an aim to encourage capacity building and adoption of best practices in the production cumin and fennel seeds, the main crops in the region.
The Gujarat Chief Minister on Monday released the sanction letters to two farmer producer organisations (FPOs) for a NABARD-supported Organic Spices Seed Park for saunf (fennel seed) in the Banaskantha district and jeera (cumin seed) in Patan for promotion of organic seed value chain of the spices.
Bamboo forum pitches forco-ordinated research project
The India Bamboo Forum (IBF), a voluntary group of more than 50 committed leaders in the bamboo sector, is pushing the Indian Council for Agriculture Research for setting up of the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on bamboo. Among its various aims, it wants to enhance the ISO codes for bamboo so that it could be used with more versatility for building construction purposes.
The AICRP is already in existence for several crops including banana and spices.
WTO negotiations: Small fishers ask Centre not to support curbs on subsidies
Small fishers across the country have asked the Centre not to support the ongoing fisheries negotiations at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) as they fear that it could lead to curbing of the much needed subsidies for the community and devastate livelihoods.
